"Wake me up when the Bluebells are ringing&qu

Tue Sep 1, 2009, 10:16 AM
  • Mood: Miserable
  • Listening to: Patrick Wolf
  • Reading: Interview with the Vampire - A. Rice
Every summer when it comes to an end, a little personal tragedy of mine repeats itself over again. When I was five, we had to move from Bulgaria. I left more than three quarters of my family back there, and I left my home there. We come back every summer for two months, which is beautiful, utterly amazing, and something I'm very grateful for, because I know a lot of people who have lost their home that way don't have this opportunity. However every time I have to leave for the Czech republic, I feel like I'm being torn out of my home and from my loved ones all over again, because I have no choice in this, I have to come back. At this moment, I wish I could use Patrick Wolf's line and go to sleep, until it was time to go to Bulgaria again. I know the country's one of Europe's most rotten countries, but it's my home, and it's where most of the people I love are. I apologize for this incredible whine.

My father used to say when I was little: "Wake me up at Easter."
I guess it's something similar. Though it hardly can have anything to do with leaving your home.

Oh Niph  I don't know what to say, I'm always dreaming of going/living abroad. I guess I'm like frodo: always pretending to be off somewhere else, untill you actually go and notice that it's quite different from what you thought. I guess I'll know about that when I go study abroad.

Will you send me a note and we'll talk?

Suddenly my first week doesn't seem so bad...
I've never had to experience something like that, but to think of what you're going through, I know it has to be unbearably tough. Just don't stop asking for love from the family you have in Czech or your friends on here--everyone's here for you. :) :glomp:

You know, it's different when you CHOOSE to live abroad. For myself, I also want to study and live abroad. I want to try in Finland, or some other scandinvian country, but what I definitely don't want is ever live in this blasted piece of land I have to live in now. But when you choose to live somewhee, it's your own wish, then it must be quite the opposite ;)

Finland is one of my dreams too, ever since I've been there last year. Magical country ^^ I love the forests especially.

You're probably right :) Why did you have to move there, if I may ask?

Yeah, it's magical for me too, even though I've only ever dreamed of it :D

We had to move because the economical situation in Bulgaria was horrible for raising a family with two small children. It was a few years after the political turn, when 'democracy' settled and made the country into a mess.
My father's half-czech, so he found a job here, and we moved.
